What Is a Bored-Pile Concrete Spacer? Uses and Types

A bored-pile concrete spacer helps maintain distance between a circular reinforcement cage and the surrounding bore surface so that concrete cover can be maintained around the cage.

Why Are Spacers Used in Bored Piles?

The reinforcement cage is lifted and lowered into the bore. Spacers help reduce direct contact between reinforcement and the bore wall and support more consistent cage positioning.

How Are They Positioned?

Spacers are attached or positioned around the cage at suitable points. The geometry needs to remain stable while the cage is handled and lowered.

What Affects Selection?

Pile diameter, cage geometry, required concrete cover, reinforcement size and handling conditions all affect the appropriate spacer type and layout.
