Panic Bars
Panic Bars are specialised door hardware intended to support rapid egress from emergency-exit and escape doors. Selection should consider single or double-leaf construction, door width, opening direction, locking points, outside access requirements and the door/frame construction.
Use this technical selection and project-compatibility guide to compare panic hardware by door arrangement, dimensions, locking configuration and outside-access needs.

ContinueWhere Panic Hardware Is Used
Panic hardware is used where fast and simple egress through a door is required. The complete solution for schools, hospitals, workplaces, public-use buildings or similar projects should be selected according to the building use, door type and applicable fire/escape requirements.
Single and Double-Leaf Doors
Single and double-leaf doors can require different mechanisms and locking arrangements. For pairs of doors, active/passive leaf behaviour, strikes and closing sequence may also need to be coordinated.
Door Width and Bar Size
The device length must suit the door leaf. Check available fixing space, locking-point positions, door material and the manufacturer's installation drawing before selection.
Surface and Mortise Arrangements
Depending on the system, panic hardware can use surface-mounted arrangements or work with a mortise mechanism in the door. Retrofit projects and newly manufactured doors may have different requirements.
Outside Access
Some applications require free egress from inside while outside entry is controlled through compatible trim, lever or cylinder hardware. Outside-access components must be compatible with the selected panic system.
Fire and Escape Door Compatibility
Panic hardware operates as part of a complete door assembly together with the door leaf, lock, hinges, closer and other components. For fire-rated or escape doors, confirm certification, project and regulatory requirements with qualified professionals.
